Another term that is often used is innovation funnel. The funny thing about all these terms is that they describe closed systems: the rocket ship is totally closed, although burned fuel is flowing out at its end; the funnel is a restriction device; and the pipeline is simply a tube with boundaries and something (oil, water, apparently projects) flows through the pipeline.
