In the construction industry, things are not quite so clear cut. Although the commissioning client may set targets for quality, cost and time criteria, it is the architects and engineers as designers and the construction managers and specialist trade contractors constructing that design who together control and determine whether they are finally achieved. Although the methods of building procurement may divide these responsibilities, the functions and objectives are the same. This means that any computer-based CAD-related approaches being developed to support the manufacture of motor cars can be considered equally relevant to the production of buildings.
